We’re Homeowners!

My husband, Thor, and I recently purchased our very first home, and I am just over the moon about it! I was born and raised in Temple City, CA (about 15 miles from Downtown Los Angeles), but now, Carson City, NV is where we call home. In this day and age, I never expected to be able to own a home at 31 yrs. old. It was always a goal of ours, but I just couldn’t grasp it ever happening (let alone moving out of state!). Needless to say, it REALLY HAPPENED, and I love living in our little town nestled amongst the Sierra Nevada Mountains between Lake Tahoe and Reno.
Reno-Tahoe is definitely quite different from Southern California, but I did live in the Bay Area for 5 years immediately after high school because I wanted to experience something “new.” I truly feel like that move unknowingly helped me prepare for the larger transition that I would eventually make with Thor. Thor and I met in Southern California in a ceramics class in college, but he was born and raised in Gardnerville, NV (just about 20 miles from where we live now). It’s really nice to have his family nearby (I didn’t know a soul moving here!). Thank goodness we had also made several trips to visit his family and I had got to know the area a bit before our move.
Moving Iris & Barry Blooms was also a bit daunting at first. I’ve been a florist for 15 years and established my business in Southern California. The thoughts that crossed my mind were “I may not get enough work” or “there may not be many opportunities for weddings in the area as there are in the condensed market of LA county”. These fears changed quickly, however, and I booked my first wedding in Tahoe before even moving!
Since then, I’ve met so many wonderful wedding vendors and creatives in the area that have helped continue to make me feel at ease. Inquiries in the area also started to roll in, and I’ve had the opportunity to design 3 weddings in the area so far (and have started to book out for 2023)! I’m so grateful that God has guided our family, my business, and myself throughout this process. He has blessed us with the perfect home. It’s truly been an adventure, and I look forward to what’s to come!
